What you’ll learn

  • Learn how to ground yourself in the present moment
  • Practice turning towards and separating yourself from difficult experiences with Radical Acceptance and Defusion
  • Identify and connect with your inner observing voice and personal life values
  • Effectively commit to value based change when things get tough

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mental health counseling approach that centers around mindfulness skills and behavioral change to help practice nonjudgmental acceptance of difficult experiences and to move forward with values based action as a means to improve quality of life.  There are 6 core processes to the ACT approach, which includes Present Moment Awareness, Acceptance, Defusion, Self-As-Context, Values, and Committed Action .  In this course, I will walk you through each of these elements with a 12-16 minute long meditation to help you expand your own self knowledge and cultivate psychological flexibility of the mind.

The ACT “Hexaflex”

  • Present Moment Awareness – Grounding in your body and current, physical environment

  • Acceptance – turning attention towards difficult inner experiences in a safe and controlled way

  • Defusion – using creative strategies to separate from then relate to difficult inner experiences

  • Self As Context – connecting with your inner observing voice, and understanding that you are a canvas upon which you experience your life

  • Values – Qualities that are personally meaningful for you that can meaningfully guide you through decision making

  • Commitment – finding perspective and motivation for following through on important actions

These meditations can be downloaded to be listened to from anywhere and as many times as needed.  While the meditations do build on one another, they do not necessarily need to be listened to in order.  If you find yourself struggling with one thing in particular, such as finding perspective, or accepting a difficult thought, or taking action in a stressful situation – you can listen to whichever meditation you are called to to find valueable guidance.

Who this course is for:

  • Individuals seeking to broaden their understanding of their private, mental experience and learn how to flexibly respond to their thoughts and feelings in ways that better enable them to behave according to their authentic selves.
