CLEP Chemistry: States of Matter
This is a free College Level Examination Program chemistry course that unpacks states of matter and the various laws that govern gases, liquids and solids.
This College Level Examination Program (CLEP) course covers gas laws, and gas pressure. All gases share common physical properties. Like liquids, gases freely flow to fill the container they are in. While liquids have a specific volume, gases have neither a definite volume nor shape. This course discusses the properties of gas and the variables affecting gas pressure. Register now to learn how to solve for molarity in solutions and more.
What You Will Learn In This Free Course
Introduction to Gases
This module introduces the various types of gases and their properties. It states Boyle?s law, Charles’s law, Ideal gas law, Gay-Lussac?s Law and Avogadro’s law. Also, this module analyzes gas pressure and variables affecting gas pressure. It discusses the relationship between the volume, pressure, temperature and number of moles of gas.
Introduction to Liquids and Solids
This module introduces the three most common intermolecular forces. It discusses vapour pressure, boiling point and other physical properties of the liquid. Also, this module outlines the general properties of ionic solids, molecular solid and metallic solid. It illustrates the heating and cooling curve.
Chemical Solutions
This module introduces the formation of solutions and the effect of temperature on solubility. It discusses the three major types of solutions. Also, this module illustrates how to solve for the molarity of a solution. It analyzes Henry’s law.
