This class features a fun and easy way to make quilted bowls in a variety of shapes and sizes using all your favorite fabrics and easy machine quilting. You’ll want to make tons for yourself and even more to give away as gifts. This is a fun project for any skill level!
Introduction
Heather introduces all of the products needed to create these bowls and shares several examples of partially completed and completed bowls. She will review stabilizers and iron-on adhesives and talk about choosing shape, fabrics and embellishments.
Crafting the Base
The shape you choose for your bowl will inform how you construct the base. Heather shows how to layer up and quilt the base, how to measure and cut the wedges for the sides, and finally, how sew up those wedges and form the bowl.
Adding the Fabric Layers
Learn the various approaches to adding the decorative fabric layers to your bowl.
Quilting the Bowl
You’ll use free-motion quilting for a decorative element. Heather demonstrates how to manipulate your bowl to fit under the foot of your machine, and how to stitch it with simple or complex shapes. This is great practice for your free-motion quilting!
Dress it Up with Edges & Finishes
This final session is all about ways to finish the edges of the bowl to dress it up. Heather will demonstrate topstitching and zigzag techniques and discuss how to bead the edges or add couched fibers. She will finish class with laundering and use instructions.
