Pattern & Design Basics
Meet Marcy and Katherine Tilton and get an overview of the pattern included with your class. This flattering French-cut T-shirt is fitted through the bust, then skims the rest of the body. Katherine and Marcy encourage you to experiment with proportion, harmony and balance as you plan your tee.
All About Fabric
Follow Marcy and Katherine’s suggestions for choosing a knit that is at or slightly above your skill level for your first project. You’ll learn design principles for mixing prints and textures, get tips on yardage and learn about pretreating fabric before laying out and cutting pattern pieces.
The Collaged T-Shirt Body
Making collages is fun! Katherine guides you through creative and flattering ways to create a T-shirt collage with fabric. Get tips for playing around with the placement of prints, see how to mark your pattern pieces and and get some ideas for creative seam finishes.
Working With Mesh Fabrics
Give your wardrobe a dash of pizzazz with a mesh tee. Marcy explains how to cut out and sew a double-layered mesh T-shirt, with tips for finishing edges and stabilizing shoulders. Add a raw-edge neckband with matching cuffs in a contrasting fabric with Marcy’s guidance.
Stand-Up & Cowl Neckbands
Katherine shares a variety of neckband treatments to make your tees unique. Try a stand-up collar in different widths, then play with cowl necklines. The twisted cowl is a fun effect and great for beginners because it’s so forgiving. Katherine walks you through sewing it.
Selvage & Twisted Neckbands
Save the rolled selvages of your knits and repurpose them as neckbands. Marcy shows you how to prepare and sew the neckband, finishing it with twin-needle topstitching. Then, give the twisted neckband a try using Marcy’s techniques for a smooth fit and chic look.
Sleeve Details
Follow along with Katherine to create sleeves you love with designer touches. You can add slit cuffs in the same or contrasting fabric simply by modifying your pattern pieces. Then, Marcy demonstrates a faced convertible sleeve with a binding at the bottom. Roll up your sleeves and enjoy!
