Learn to create pictorial portraits in oil while developing your personal style and creative voice
Do you want to express your creative voice through painting? Learn to create oil portraits alongside figurative painter Isabel Garmon, whose works have been part of private collections and exhibitions around the world.
In this online course, he will teach you how to paint portraits based on a reference. First, you will sketch your idea with charcoal, before exploring how to bring your drawing to life through the oil technique. Finally, Isabel will show you the importance of finding a creative language that is reflected in your work.
You will start the course by meeting your teacher, Isabel Garmon, who will talk to you about her career in the world of art and academic painting. In addition, he will introduce you to some of his influences and motivations.
Before starting to paint you will know the theory of light, you will understand its relationship of values and you will work on the composition of your piece. You will begin to sketch your idea with charcoal, until you design the final drawing. Then, you will see how Procreate (or similar software) can help you choose the color palette.
You will prepare the oil premixes and get to work. You will raise the base of the drawing with a brush and you will place the main tones. You will learn to work the volume with the high lights and to give life and warmth to the portrait with the tonal temperatures.
Isabel will give you some final advice on color experimentation. You will discover the importance of personal research to discover your artist voice and how to cultivate your style by always carrying a sketchbook with you.
