The economically active population or labour force is the total number of people between the ages of 15 and 64 who are willing and able to work. Not everyone between the ages of 15 and 64 is willing and able to work.

•Definitions
•EAP – includes people from 15 to 64 years of age who are either employed or unemployed and are seeking employment.
•Youth means persons between the ages of 14 and 35 (as per the National Youth Commission Act, 1996)
•Black people
•Is a generic term which means African, Coloureds and Indians
•(a) who are citizens of the Republic of South Africa by birth or descent;
