Find your style and learn to transform your furniture into decorative pieces of art with wood painting techniques

Add your review

Have you ever imagined turning furniture and wooden objects into lively, colorful pieces of art? Artist Ju Amora specializes in upcycling furniture through illustration and her work has appeared in campaigns for big-name brands like Nivea, Westwing, Brastemp, and many more.

In this course, learn illustration techniques for painting a stool, or any other wooden object, by hand. Ju teaches you to create an impactful piece step by step, from your choice of reference materials and translating your design to the wood, to painting in color and adding the finishing touches.

Begin by hearing a little about Ju Amora and how she gave up a career in acting to dedicate herself to decorating furniture full time. She also shares some of her most defining projects and main artistic influences.

Then get stuck into putting together a mood board. Hear some of Ju’s tips on where to find inspiration along with the best ways to present your reference materials. After studying the color wheel, use what you’ve discovered to define your color palette and get straight to work on your first sketch.

Now select which piece of furniture you’d like to work with and prep it for painting. Start by sanding it, then give it a base coat before painting the background. Next, turn your attention back to your sketch and see how to transfer your composition to the wood. Finish off by applying color and any final details.

To wrap up the course, Ju shows you some additional techniques and materials that you can use for painting as well as how to create a small furniture collection of your own.
