Hate and extremism are on the rise. Social media is increasingly being used to spread hateful rhetoric. Neighborhoods and schools are reporting vandalism against members of minority communities. Companies are grappling with issues of bias and discrimination. At a global level, we’re continuing to see bigotry take hold, sometimes leading to extremist violence or terrorism.

All of this hate quickly becomes overwhelming. As an ordinary citizen, it can be hard to know how to make a difference or take a stand. Yet, it’s still within the power of average people to combat hate, counter bias, fight prejudice and tackle discrimination in meaningful ways to stop the cycle of hatred and violence. In fact, the acts of ordinary people are likely our best hope to make change.

In this course, Jonathan Greenblatt, the current CEO of the Anti-Defamation League and the previous Director of Social Innovation for President Obama, will share concrete tips and strategies that everyone can take to fight hate in their communities, workplaces, and online. He’ll help you learn to recognize the signs of bias before they escalate into discrimination, prejudice or hate crimes and teach you about proven strategies for taking a stand in your neighborhood or workplace. He’ll also share important ways that social entrepreneurs and companies can meaningfully contribute to these important issues.

This course will help you learn to start shifting from a state of fear or paralysis towards practical action and change. Whether you’re a human resources manager, a parent, a social entrepreneur, or a concerned citizen, you’ll learn strategies to become a force for good—and help the people around you do the same.
