Algebra Made Easy
This comprehensive course covers the basics of algebra, including symbols, substitution, powers, and algebraic operations. It also teaches factorization, solving equations and inequations, evaluating and transforming algebraic formulas, and solving simultaneous and quadratic equations. Suitable for high school and college students, as well as those preparing for exams or in need of a refresher in algebra.
What you’ll learn
- Understanding the Basics of Algebra: use of symbols, substitution, powers and algebraic operations
- Ability to perform Algebraic Factorisation: Factorisation by grouping, Factors of Quadratic expressions, HCF
- Solving questions relating to Algebraic functions: Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction of Algebraic Fractions, LCM
- Be able to solve Equations and Inequations: simple equations and inequations, making expressions, construction of simple equations
- Learn how to evaluate and transform algebraic formulae
- Ability to solve Simultaneous equations using both the Elimination and Substitution Methods
- Be able to solve Quadratic Equations by Factors, Completing the Square and by using the Quadratic Equation method
- Be introduced to Indices and Logarithms, Direct and Invese Variation and Functions, Composite Functions
This course begins with Algebra math basics and progresses all the way to the Intermediate Level. It starts by assuming that you know absolutely nothing about Algebra, but that you would have already completed the basics of Arithmetic. It covers all that you need to know about basic Algebra. It generally follows the Caribbean school math curriculum, but North American students will find the content vital and extremely useful as well. I have attempted to present the material as simple as possible, with full explanation.
The course is presented in the following format:
Seven Hours of fully detailed instruction videos.
Practice problems with complete solutions at the end of every section.
The course is presented in the following sections and topics:
An introduction and explanation of what Algebra is and what solving algebraic problems are all about.
Algebraic operators and rules governing the solution of algebraic operations
Details of how to handle terms raised to various powers.
How to add, subtract, multiply and divide terms in Algebra.
Solving bracketed terms.
What is the lowest common multiple (LCM) and how it is applied to fractions in Algebra.
The various ways of Algebraic factorization, e.g. factorization by grouping.
Definition of What Equations and Inequations are, and how to solve problems dealing with these.
Evaluating formulas and making a particular term the subject of the formula, through transposition.
What Simultaneous Equations are, the various types and how to solve them. The basic methods of solving simultaneous equations, taught in this course are Elimination and Substitution. Simultaneous Quadratic Equations and a method of solving them are also presented.
An explanation of what Quadratic Equations are, and the various methods of solving them. Three ways of solving quadratic equations, as presented in this course, are the Factor Method, Completing the Square, and the use of the Quadratic Formula.
Finally, Indices and Logarithms are presented with definitions and worked examples.
