In addition to that, we are also living in a world where audio-visual media is rapidly becoming the primary mode of communication. From WhatsApp forwards in the video format, to memes which convey an idea in one image, and now online classes and workspaces across the globe due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the need to deciphering the meaning behind visual representations is imperative. Going forward, it will probably be among the most important skills one can acquire to avoid being manipulated by images, videos, and films. Restricting our access to film and audio-visual media may work as a solution in the short term, but the long-term goal should be to enable children and adults to become discerning consumers of media.
