Arabic for Church: Recognize is a course designed to help anyone who is interested in learning classical Arabic in the context of Church. The syllabus was designed by Lina Flowers, a native-speaker of Arabic, an English teacher and a Professional Development Trainer with a vast experience in curriculum design and writing training materials. Learners at all levels will have ample opportunity to practice, self-assess and reflect.

In Arabic for Church: Recognize, learners will learn to recognize Arabic letters in terms of shapes, consonant sounds and their influence on words when they come in the final position. To recognize what the Arabic letters look like, this course follows the order of the alphabet as its organization lends itself to learning letters by shape. Then to recognize Arabic consonant sounds, learners will listen to their instructor’s pronunciation, a native-speaker of Arabic, and be guided further by the use of the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) as a learning tool. With regards to how letters are linked in the final position, the course follows the writing guidelines of Al-Ruqa’a writing style for the elevation of letters above the line only, not the typeface. This will prove useful should learners decide to learn how to write in Arabic. The course uses extracts from a variety of sources; the Bible, prayer books and hymnals, selecting authentic texts that best achieve course objectives.

Arabic for Church: Recognize consists of 13 sections with letters grouped into sections based on similarities in shape, as much as possible. In each section, learners will be able to watch a lecture, complete a practice worksheet, watch a feedback video to go over the answers to the exercises, then self-evaluate using a quiz of 10 multiple-choice and use a learning journal to reflect on their learning.
