Artistic Self-Portrait Photography
Learn to explore artistic photography by being your own model
If there’s anything that characterizes the work of photographer Cristina Otero—who, at the age of 15, became the youngest Spanish artist to exhibit individually in a gallery—it is that she is usually both the photographer and the model. This has made her a true expert in artistic self-portraiture.
In this course, Cristina teaches you her creative process for photographic self-portraiture and shows you how to take advantage of the whole process, especially post-production.
Start the course by getting to know Cristina and her work as she talks about her evolution as an artist and shares her biggest influences. She goes over why she decided to opt for self-portraiture and what attracts her most to this photographic genre.
Next, she guides you through the process of looking for an idea for your project and provides some guidelines and tips to choose the materials you need for the photo shoot.
Cristina then talks about concepts such as makeup, the symbolism of color, the importance of props, lighting, and an essential element for any self-portrait session: how to pose in front of the camera.
To finish, Cristina shows you her post-production process, one of the elements that differentiates her work. She first teaches you how to carry out a basic retouch with Lightroom, and once in Photoshop, she explains how she retouches her photographs, painting on them as if they were a canvas to make her images more powerful.
