This course is an introduction to the main concepts in Supply Chain Management. SCM is the heart of any company that is involved in selling, producing or buying goods for its customers or its own consumption. This course also lays the foundation for subsequent topics in this subject. It will also help students explore SCM with a view to make it a strong career choice.

With increasing interest in the global supply chain, this course will help students understand the basic flows involved between participating members of the supply chain – namely, Materials, Money and Information. Modern supply chains have grown incredibly complex. However, the concepts are quite simple and this is what you will be able to grasp in this course.

The course looks at three critical areas related to the supply chain. The first aspect covered includes the importance of the supply chain, basic definitions as well as fundamental concepts. One of the important standards, which is the SCOR model of representing the supply chain provides a process abstract of supply chain representation.

The second section looks at a typical structure of the supply chain organization. Using an illustration the link between the different processes of the supply chain and the job roles that are required to execute the processes are detailed.

The last section explains the relationship between managing customer relationships and the supply chain. This provides the student with an appreciation of why supply chains of various organizations are structured differently.
