Film came to India very early, initially only on a visit. In 1896, a silent film by the Lumiére brothers was shown for the first time in a hotel in Bombay. Then in 1913, the first Indian feature film” Raja Harishchandra” was made by Dhundiraj Govid Phalke. Even then, the content was Indian epics, which remained so for a long time. Thus, a film language of its own developed and from it the genre Bollywood.

Bollywood – an Indian economic factor

The name is derived from the actual filming location Bombay (today Mumbai) and the great role model Hollywood. In the meantime, Indian film production has overtaken the American model. Every year, 900 to 1000 films are produced in India, which are seen by 3.6 billion people worldwide. American productions reach one billion people less.

BollyDance

BollyDance combines various dance styles used in Bollywood choreographies. Folkloric Bhangra style, traditional Bollywood elements, classical Indian dance styles or hip-hop episodes are combined with the more spiritually inspired Sufi elements. Simple basic forms are introduced from all style and combined into different choreographies that correspond to these basic styles. After a thorough warm-up, the basic forms and steps, the mudras (hand gestures) and the foot techniques are introduced. These can then be practised separately and in slow motion, making them easy to replicate, whether by beginners, advanced or professional dancers. At the end of each lesson, the individual sequences can be repeated again as an overall choreography.

BollyDance is the dance from Bollywood films as Tatjana Wegner’s fitness concept. A combination of exoticism, joie de vivre, coordination and modern dance training.

Let yourself be carried away by the choreographies in the oriental ambience of the Maharani Palace at Hannover Zoo. Follow the simple instructions and dance like an Indian dancer to current Bollywood hits. Have fun!
