What you’ll learn
- Identify, define, and flesh out the 3 main characters in the story: the Protagonist, the Antagonist, the Ally
- Use the Protagonist’s flaw and the antagonistic forces to create conflict.
- Use the Protagonist’s flaw to identify his/her special skill.
- Use the Protagonist’s special skill to create transformed action.
In this class we use character-driven insights to flesh out your story’s three main characters:
The Protagonist / Hero
The Antagonist
The Ally
We use character-driven insights to achieve the following:
Identify the major components of your STORY.
Define your Hero and understand his motives, goals, and limitations.
Identify your Hero’s FLAW.
Use this Flaw to create CONFLICT.
Find your Hero’s ALLIES.
Find the ANTAGONISTIC FORCES.
Use the Hero’s Flaw as a SPECIAL SKILL.
Use the Special Skill to create TRANSFORMED ACTION.
By the end of this class, you will have a general understanding of the major beats in your story. This will give you a blueprint of your story so you can get started on writing your story without having to stare at a blank page.
You will know who your main character is, who his/her allies are, what problem your characters are trying to solve, what the main antagonistic forces are standing in their way, and what major conflicts they have to overcome.
What You’ll Accomplish
The class project consists of the 8 worksheets you will complete to help you understand your characters better and flesh out the details of your story.
Each worksheet corresponds to a video lesson. Each lesson is around 10 minutes long, and each worksheet should take you less than 15 minutes to complete.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll have a blueprint of your story, which includes a breakdown of your three main characters: The Protagonist, The Antagonist, The Ally. As well as the major conflicts and beats within your story. You’ll have a better sense of the relationships, motivations, and dynamics between these characters, and know with far more clarity how these characters might react emotionally and physically to the events within your story.
