Intro to Wedding Ring & Pickle Dish Quilts
Meet your instructor, quilt shop owner Jackie Kunkel. Learn about the classic Double Wedding Ring and its sister version, the Pickle Dish quilt. Then Jackie will go over the paper piecing techniques you’ll use in class, before teaching you how to select the best fabrics for a variety of looks.
Cutting & Preparing Your Fabric
Pick up tips for cutting out the squares of fabric for your Double Wedding Ring and Pickle Dish quilts as well as organization ideas that will help you streamline your piecing process. Next, find out how to cut out templates for the melon and wedge shapes you’ll need for your blocks, as well as printing off the foundation papers you’ll use to construct your blocks.
Piecing the Wedding Ring & Pickle Dish Arcs
Jackie will walk you step by step through paper piecing the Double Wedding Ring arcs, as well as the spikes and background for the Pickle Dish arcs. See how to bring your arcs together by adding the cornerstones and trimming them down to size.
Joining Arcs to the Melon & Wedges
Once your arcs are pieced, Jackie will guide you through the order of piecing you should use for constructing the block most easily. Along the way, Jackie will help you tackle curved piecing with troubleshooting tips for avoiding puckers and piecing mistakes.
Joining Blocks to Make the Table Topper
Prepare your blocks for joining as you see how to square them up. Then join the rows to make a table topper with a square layout. Jackie will also guide you through adding borders for a beautiful finish.
Traditional Curves & Finishing Alternatives
In your final lesson, Jackie will show you how to create a Double Wedding Ring quilt layout with traditional scalloped edges. You’ll also get a quick overview of bias binding options for turning this project into a pillow, table topper or wall hanging.
