January: Offset Log Cabin
Meet Laura Nownes, your teacher for the Craftsy 2013 Block of the Month! Start right in by making the offset log cabin, as Laura goes over the basics of fabric preparation, cutting and stitching.
February: Partial Seams, Spring Blooms
This month, you’ll learn about strip sets as a time-saving quilting method that makes blocks look more difficult than they really are. Practice partial seams as you make the spring bloom block!
March: Drafting, Economy Block
As you stitch the economy block, Laura teaches you the basic steps and formulas for drafting, so you can make a block pattern in any size.
April: Curved Piecing, Fan
Laura shows you tricks with templates and fusibles that make curved piecing easier. You’ll make the fan block.
May: 45-Degree Triangles, Strippy Spools
Chain piece the strippy spools design as you master 45-degree triangles.
June: Y-Seam Construction, LeMoyne Star
Have you ever tried a Y-seam construction? Laura breaks it down for you as you create the beautiful LeMoyne star block.
July: 60-Degree Triangles & Diamonds, Tumbling Blocks
Use strip piecing and different fabric values to create the optical illusion of tumbling blocks. In the process you’ll play with 60-degree triangles and diamond shapes.
August: Appliqué Basket
A pretty basket of flowers will be the last block we create. Learn how to build the basket out of a strip set, then coax bias-cut strips into a curved shape for your basket handle.
September: Appliqué Flowers & Leaves
Let’s finish the cheerful flower basket block with appliquéd flowers and leaves. Laura demonstrates a clever technique for circular flower centers.
October: Half-Square Triangles & Flying Geese
To finish your sampler quilt, you’ll need an assortment of filler blocks. Learn Laura’s way of making half-square triangles and flying geese.
November/December: Mitered Binding
Combine your blocks however you like! Once you’ve sandwiched and quilted your sampler, add Laura’s easy mitered binding.
