Creating the Crazy Background
Meet Allie Aller, the author of “Allie Aller’s Crazy Quilting: Modern Piecing and Embellishing Techniques for Joyful Stitching.” She gives an overview of the techniques and project in this class.
Flip & Sew Method
In the basic “Flip and Sew” method, you will cut fabrics using templates, then stitch them onto muslin stabilized with interfacing. Then launch into basic decorative stitches.
Curved Flip & Sew Method
Assembling curved pieces is a little trickier, but Allie demonstrates and troubleshoots the process. Add three new hand embroidery stitches!
Freezer Paper Template Method
Freezer paper makes appliqué faster and easier. Learn how to prepare and apply the pieces, then stitch the detached chain, fly and extended fly stitches.
Intuitive Appliqué Method
Victorian ladies used scraps of their dress fabrics in crazy quilting, adding sumptuous brocades, fancy lace and delicate silk. Learn how to handle vintage fabrics, pick up the chevron and Cretan stitches, and find out about what Allie calls “Intuitive Appliqué.”
Fabulous Seam Treatments
The lesson name says it all! Combine stitches like chain, feather and French knot to embellish your seams. Add beads and decorative threads for more color and shine!
Silk Ribbon & Other Embellishments
Silk ribbons, colorful flowers, jewels and gems create pretty accents for your quilts.
