Introduction

The Pearson Edexcel Level 1/Level 2 GCSE (9–1) in Chinese (spoken Mandarin/spoken Cantonese) is designed for use in schools and colleges. It is part of a suite of GCSE qualifications offered by Pearson. (Before 2016 under (5CN01/1H) Listening; (5CN02 Speaking); (5CN03/3H)).

Foundation tier

Paper 1: (1CN0/1F) Listening and understanding in Chinese

Time: 30 minutes and 5 minutes’ reading. 14 Questions, answer in English.

Paper 2: (1CN0/2F) Speaking in Chinese

Time: 7 to 9 minutes plus 12 minutes’ preparation time

General instructions to the teacher conducting the assessment

-The examination is made up of three tasks.

-The tasks must be conducted in the following order: role play, picture-based task, conversation.

-The total examination will last between 7 to 9 minutes.
