The first Christmas a perfect illustration of Isaiah 55:9: “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

If it had been up to us to plan and carry out the birth of the Messiah and Savior of the world, we would not have planned it the way God did. His ways and thoughts are higher than ours. But before we begin, let me offer one clue right here: the deeper we go in understanding the unexpected nature of the first Christmas, the more we will discover about the unexpected nature of God’s love for us.
