What you’ll learn

  • For the first lesson you can create a self portrait drawing inspired by the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
  • Includes extra background information about the artist, their work, and their art movement.
  • For the second lesson you can create a colourful face using cardboard and soft pastels.
  • All artists are great role models of people who think differently.
  • Become familiar with the artist’s style and techniques. Develop your own style by looking at art critically and gain appreciation for all art in general.

In the Frida Kahlo lesson we learn about the art of this Mexican artist. In the collage activity you can have fun blending pastels or chalk to create this colourful face.

Hi, my name is Julie and I am a qualified primary school teacher with a BA Hons degree in Art and Design. Welcome to my online lessons!

All of my lessons are aimed at beginners and there’s a wide variety available such as painting, drawing, collage, printing, and 3-D modelling. There are 30 in total, all of which will be available very soon!

All lessons consist of simple step by step video tutorials. Included in these are a selection of art history lessons inspired by various famous artists from around the world – 3 x Andy Warhol (USA), 3 x Wassily Kandinsky (Russia), 3 x Bridget Riley (UK), 3 x Salvador Dali (Spain), 1 x Frida Kahlo (Mexico), 1 x Damien Hirst (UK). The other lessons consist of more fun painting, drawing, printing, and 3-D modelling activities.

Along with the videos you will have access to printable files that include photos of the artist’s work and background information about their life and the art movement that has inspired the lesson. Follow every step exactly or alter your work as you wish. Everyone has their own style and there are no rights or wrongs in art!

At the end of every activity you will have a completed work of art to be proud of!

The activities only require materials you will most likely already have at home. A list of the materials needed is  available to view before you decide to buy.

Who this course is for:

  • The lessons are aimed at beginners, but anyone can have a go! Whatever level of artistic development, everyone will learn something new and will have lots of fun in the process. Receive a comprehensive art education that promotes creative thinking and supports the art curriculum. You will use a variety of art materials and be learning lots of new techniques. The step by step instructions are really easy to follow, and once you are used to the layout you will be able to navigate through at your own pace. You will just need a few basic art supplies, all of which will be listed at the beginning of each lesson.
  • Children from age 5 can have a go with the help of an adult.
