Loly Ghirardi, better known as Señorita Lylo, continues to experiment and is always looking for innovative ways to tell a story through embroidery. By applying different stitches and combining textures, she embroiders hairstyles that look just like real hair.
In this course, learn various techniques for creating hairstyles that stand out by giving them volume and and adding a unique finish to your embroidery. Using a photo, learn how to add a 3D effect to the textile of your choice.
Start off by getting to know Loly Ghirardi, also known as Señorita Lylo. Learn about her latest projects and discover how she got started creating her raised embroidery pieces. Discover her influences in textile art and discover what you’re about to learn in the course.
The first steps to creating your embroidery piece are choosing the materials you want to use, selecting the right photo, and tracing it either on photo editing software or with a pencil and some tracing paper. Once you have your outline, transfer it onto your garment or mount it in your hoop.
Next, get your needle and thread ready to start embroidering! Practice the basic stitches on a hoop to start creating the contours for your hairstyle (anything from braids, to a bun, to an updo with flowers). She also shows you how to create hats and their different textures.
Once you have practiced some of Señorita Lylo’s techniques, it’s time to start your final project. When you’ve got your hairstyle done, see some tricks for finishing off your piece so you can hang it or give it as a gift.
