This course aims to equip you with more technique for playing the DJEMBE so that you can enjoy with friends and family. It is most suitable for beginners, parents, teachers, and music lovers. It is encouraged to take the “Have Fun With Djembe (Level 1)” first.
You will review those rhythms we learned in level 1 class. Then, you will be introduced to more traditional African rhythms of DJEMBE. We focus on the timing, hand position, and sounds of playing DJEMBE. You will be given some examples of jamming with two DJEMBES. We are going to practice with it. We will also sing some new African songs and play along with the Djembe, some body movements, and small instruments.
When you play with a team, we need a signal to let everyone know when to start. We called it “Call & Response”. By learning this and an introduction rhythm, we can start doing our mini-performance. We are going to combine different rhythms and songs into a performance arrangement. You will make use of all the rhythms and songs we learned in the level 1 and 2. You are welcome to add your own rhythms too!
