What you’ll learn

  • How to warm-up hand muscles and speed up technique exercises in a healthy way
  • Scales, arpeggios, octaves, chords
  • Play fast and powerful
  • Learn how to speed up any fast runs in pieces on the example of technique exercises

This program is for advanced level pianists who are pursuing their Bachelor’s, Master’s or D.M.A. degrees in Piano Performance. Good sight-reading and singing skills are a ‘must’ requirement for this program.

I strongly advise against playing your former repertoire during this course so as not to confuse mental and physical memory while acquiring new skills. The ideal time for studying is during your gap year where you can calmly focus on the retraining program only, committing 4 hours/day to practicing.

You can start the retraining program while keeping your study at the musical school, college or conservatory. However, this will result in a much slower, more challenging and overwhelming learning.

Each topic of the program consists of 3 main steps that takes about a week to complete.

  • read through a topic and watch a relevant video – 1 hour

  • watch an open lesson video – 1 hour

  • practice following a practice video – 2-4 hours

Following this practice plan you will be able to complete the retraining program within 6 months (1.5 month for each book).

To study this course successfully you need to know about 3D hand motion, elbow motion, sound imagination, intonation, arm weight, articulations, harmony, dynamics & voicing, musical speech, phrasing, image, form, timing, self-confidence. These elements were taught in the previous Mastery of Piano Technique books 1-3. If you’ve completed book 1 (3D hand motion, elbow motion, sound imagination, intonation, arm weight) you can still start this book 4 and gradually apply your knowledge and skills in scales, arpeggios, octaves and chords, as well as in a new piece.

  • You will learn how to analyse scales, arpeggios, octaves and chords, how to use them to warm-up and strengthen finger tendons, ligaments and hand muscles

  • You will study how to speed up scales, arpeggios, octaves and chords, how to train stamina in a healthy way

  • You will have a suggested daily routine to keep your hand and finger muscles at maximum strength and power

  • You will learn how to approach a new piece & how to learn it in an efficient way

  • You will find out how to prepare for a performance or recital

Each underlined Title in the book is linked to a detailed video. Make sure you don’t miss Open Lessons video to learn more about how students study this course.
