Getting Started Picking Up Stitches
In your first lesson, Chris walks through many benefits of picking up stitches with care. You’ll learn the differences between edgings and facings and get some practice by making the swatches used for other lessons.
Picking Up Straight Edges
It’s time to pick up the pace! Start this lesson off with techniques for picking up along straight edges as Chris demonstrates techniques for both vertical and horizontal edging, handy skills for working along the sides and bottom of your project. Chris’ fun “never skipping a martini” trick will help you pick up perfectly every time!
Picking Up Around a Neckline
After learning linear pick up skills, try your hand at picking up around curves, specifically necklines. Follow along with Chris as she demystifies crew necks, V-necks and cardigan necklines to make them a breeze!
Picking Up Combination Edges
Picking up in straight and curved lines at once can be challenging, but don’t worry! Chris will show you how to make quick work of these situations. You’ll learn to pick up for stepped bind-offs, shirttail edges, and armholes. Plus, you’ll even get tips for working in different stitch patterns!
Custom Applied Edgings
Need ideas to spice up your pattern after picking up stitches? Chris shares several options for custom applied edgings: a simple and sleek minimal edge, classic and flexible ribbing, and the versatile reverse rolled edge. She’ll even show you how to easily create an applied I-cord!
Polished Primary Edgings
What do you do if you want to work a polished edge at the same time as your project? You’ll find out in this lesson as Chris guides you step by step through four options for fabulous primary edgings. You’ll work the fun twisted hem, stretchy slip-stitch edging with ribbing, and a simple, elastic bind-off that will keep your projects from fitting too tight.
Structure Behind the Scenes
Some projects need a little help “behind the scenes” to look their best. In this last lesson, Chris shows you how to add structure to your project to help it really shine. You’ll learn to work a simple primary hem, primary and applied facings, and an applied crochet neck chain.
