Rock Guitar Lessons – Beyond The Realms Of Death

Judas Priest feel as they have been around forever. As a teenager in the 70’s they had this great heavy guitar sound I had never heard before.

Beyond The Realms Of Death is a track from the Stained Class Album which was released in 1978. Which is still regarded as one of the best Judas Priest albums.

The song is considered a Judas Priest classic, with versions of the song appearing on the albums Priest, Live and Rare, ’98 Live Meltdown, Live in London, A Touch of Evil: Live, Live Insurrection and many of the group’s compilation albums.

In 2005, Stained Class was ranked number 307 in Rock Hard magazine’s book of The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time. In 2017, it was ranked 43rd in Rolling Stone‘s “100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time”.

The song starts out as a slow and light ballad until the chorus, where the song erupts into heavy riffs. The song then turns light once again until the next chorus, and the following bridge section. The first guitar solo is then played by Glenn Tipton. Then the song turns light once again for the next verses, which is followed by the heavy chorus/bridge section once again and the second guitar solo played by K. K. Downing. This is followed by the final heavy riffs and the epic final scream of Rob Halford.

Glen Tipton’s solo is seen by many as his finest work and has often been called his “Stairway To Heaven”.

The song is broken down into easy-to-follow sections. Special attention is made to the techniques used by Glen and KK Downing.
