Conquer the Blank Page

Meet your instructor, Vicky Papaioannou, and begin to conquer the blank page! You’ll start by laying down the base of your art journal and learning about the different mediums and tools you can use. Then, Vicky will share her step-by-step process for translating inspiration onto the page.

Backgrounds

Learn how to use a variety of mediums to build up your backgrounds, from tissue paper and gesso wash to patterned paper and acrylics. Vicky will explain how to choose materials to create the perfect foundation for your art journal page, using supplies you already have in your stash.

Adding Interest

The first layer of color and texture is done but you’ll see how a few subtle touches can add beautiful dimension and interest to your page. In this lesson, Vicky will share how to use stamps, stencils, ink and paste to take your pages to a gorgeous new level.

Focals

Step up your skills by adding focal points. The creative possibilities are endless! You’ll draw original designs with Vicky’s expert guidance or use her go-to sources for pre-made focals that will blend beautifully into your page. Plus, you’ll get tips for perfectly placing your designs.

Shading & Highlighting

Vicky shares her shading secrets that bring your page together and make designs come alive. You’ll use markers to add depth and dimension and see how Vicky incorporates beautiful highlights to unite her pages. She’ll even explain how to troubleshoot tricky gel pens.

Finishing Touches

It’s time for the finishing touches and one last focal point: your quote! You’ll learn how Vicky creates the text for her journals and incorporates gorgeous mixed media elements. Then, you’ll get ideas for displaying your work, whether you choose to share it with the world or keep it for yourself.
