Hi and welcome to the first course dedicated exclusively to the science behind stem cells on Udemy, my name is Gerardo and this is “Stem cell science”

Chances are, you’ve probably heard about stem cells, they seem to be constantly in the media as on of the latest medical treatments. Perhaps you even know someone who has considered stem cell therapy as an option to treat a certain condition. But, what are they exactly? Are there different types of stem cells? What are their applications? How are researchers using them at the lab? Are there other applications outside of the medical field? Do you have stem cells in your body at this moment?

Think of this course as “Beginner’s guide to Stem cells”, therefore this is intended for high school or college students with a focus on Life Sciences. The only thing you need is a basic knowledge of Biology, so this course is also open to anyone who is just curious about stem cells and want to know exactly how they function.

The course is split into videos and will cover the following sections:

THE COURSE

  • Stem cell 101

  • History of stem cells

  • Stem cell applications

  • Regeneration in other species

  • Non-medical stem cell applications

The content is in English, with closed captions in English and Spanish.

A bit about myself, I am a biotechnology engineer with a master’s on Stem Cell Technology and I am Research Associate in a company within the field of Regenerative Medicine, working with stem cells basically every day. Additionally, I’ve also been teaching this course at undergraduate level for engineering students, and I will be your guide through a series of sections that cover the essential of stem cells.

At the end of the course, you will be able to answer the mentioned questions at the beginning and more, so if you are interested in the topic or want to start a career within the field this content is definitely for you.
