  • This course provides short cuts and pathways for even beginners to manage their sessions without the presence of an interpreter.
  • Lessons target the Spanish-speaking patient who needs rehabilitation.
  • Most scenarios focus on instructions to get patients to move and strengthen their bodies.

The Strategic Spanish for Physical and Occupational Therapists 2: Rehabilitation course is the second in a 3-part series of practical training courses for PT, PTA, OT and OTA professionals serving Spanish-speaking patients. You don’t have to be bilingual to communicate instructions in Spanish well enough to complete your session objectives!

The course is called “strategic” for a reason. It provides carefully designed short cuts and easy pathways for even a beginning language learner to manage Spanish-speaking patients safely and respectfully, without the presence of an interpreter.

The Rehabilitation course continues to build on the basic movements from the first course yet it expands into more body parts, incorporates greater intricacy of motion, and focuses on building body strength. Topics include such items as:

• a more comprehensive dive into functional pronunciation skills

• tailored vocabulary necessary for exercise routines

• instructions for getting patients to improve posture, stretch and work out problem areas

• cultural tips and language strategies to encourage your patient’s cooperation

• pain assessments to assure the safety of your patient while in session

• make appointments with numbers and dates in Spanish

• instructions for managing patients on work-out equipment

• contains audio practices, quizzes, and a post-test to evaluate retention of the content
