Introduction

Meet popular knit and crochet designer Kristin Omdahl, who will teach you to knit beautiful yet simple shawl designs.

The Jasmine Shawl

Kristin named the Jasmine shawl for its petal-shaped bind-off. This top-down, triangular shawl is worked with eyelet rows and a ruffle edging.

Finishing the Jasmine Shawl

Create the dimensional tiers on the Jasmine shawl by picking up and knitting into the original fabric.

Knitting Gardenias

The cape-style Gardenia shawl closes at the neck with a button or ribbon. The six-petaled gardenia design that decorates this shawl is worked in rows, not rounds, then joined with a three-needle bind-off.

The Gardenia Shawl

Short-row shaping on a knit cast-on creates a belled or scalloped edge. The arrow lace pattern is worked in an eight-row repeat.

Finishing the Gardenia Shawl

Put the pieces of the Gardenia shawl together with a collar at the top of the yoke, a button closure and attached gardenia flowers.

Infinity Motifs

We get started on the Infinity shawl, a rectangular wrap with armholes that features some of Kristin’s favorite techniques. Start by making motifs in the Infinity design — they look difficult but are worked with simple increases and decreases.

Assembling the Infinity Motifs

Now assemble the Infinity motifs with steam blocking, sewing and pinning to turn your S-shaped motifs into their final shape.

The Infinity Shawl

Move on to the Infinity shawl itself. Pick up and knit into the assembled Infinity motifs to create this beautiful and unique shawl with a scalloped lace edging.

Modifying the Infinity Shawl

The Infinity shawl pattern can be modified to make a capelet style or a regular wrap without the armholes.

Bonus: Styling

Kristin shows innovative ways to wear your shawls to show off their unique shapes and delicate motifs and edgings. Turn your Infinity shawl into a keyhole scarf or create a shrug with your Jasmine shawl and a hair clip!
