Searching for the perfect small bag to carry your essentials? Look no further! Join professional bagmaker Mariah McPherson and learn to sew a chic, practical cross-body bag. Discover how to successfully work with waxed canvas for a distressed urban look — that’s even water-resistant — as well as metal zippers, magnetic snaps and more.

Materials & Supplies

Meet designer Mariah McPherson and tour the features of the cross-body bag. You’ll review the materials and supplies you’ll need to get started. If you want to make your own waxed canvas rather than buying it, Mariah shows you how!

Constructing the Bag

Start your bag by inserting the zipper pocket on the outside of the bag. Then add a magnetic snap and and the flap before assembling the outer bag and boxing the corners.

Completing the Bag

You’re almost done! Once the outer bag is complete, sew the lining with its divided inner pocket, then join the outer bag and lining. With purchased webbing, you’ll create an adjustable strap and join it to complete your bag.
