With so many different ways to knit socks, how do you know which one is right for you? In this class, sock knitter Jen Lucas walks you through her favorite way to knit socks – top-down using the magic loop method.

Intro & Materials

In this first session, knitting expert Jen Lucas reviews all the materials you’ll need in order to knit a pair of worsted weight socks. Jen also discusses the basic construction of the sock, as well as yarn and gauge considerations for your sock knitting adventure.

Joining in the Round & Cuff

Get started with knitting your top-down sock by casting on and working the cuff. Jen demonstrates how to work the German Twisted Cast-On and how to work in the round using the magic loop method.

Leg

Jen shows you how to knit the leg of the sock. She shares her tips for arranging the stitches in a way that works for you and how to make modifications to the sock pattern.

German Short Row Heel

There are lots of options for heels when knitting socks. In this session, Jen teaches you her favorite heel: the German Short Row Heel. She walks you through the entire heel process step-by-step.

Foot

Jen shows you just how simple it is to knit the foot of your sock. She also shares her expertise on how to measure the foot of your sock in order to have a proper fit.

Toe & Finishing

Jen explains everything you need to know to finish your top-down sock. She works the toe decreases, followed by the Kitchener stitch to close up the toe without a seam. She shares her tips on how to remember the steps of the Kitchener stitch and finishes the session by weaving in the ends of her sock.

Bonus: Avoiding Gaps at Heel

In this bonus session, Jen discusses how to eliminate a gap at the heel of your sock. It’s not always necessary to pick up extra stitches when working the heel, but if you do have a little gap, Jen shows you how to fix it.
