The student will understand the importance of the colour wheel, including warm and cool colours, as well as complimentary colours. The student will be shown how to lay out the colour wheel correctly, and be able to identify the position of colours on the wheel. The student will be shown how to mix colours and encouraged to experiment with colour mixing, and keep a record of the experimentation in the form of swatches.

The student will be shown how the watercolour brushes should be utilised and the effects that can be achieved.

The student will be shown various watercolour techniques that will allow the student to add the results to their final paintings. The techniques will consist of washes, wet in wet; dry brush; splatter; droplets; sponge effects; brush rolling techniques; paper towelling usage etc.

The student will be shown how to paint trees, in the far distance, the middle foreground and in the immediate foreground.

The student will be shown how to use simple shapes to enable more elaborate shapes to be drawn more accurately.

The student will be shown how to paint shadows utilising complimentary colours.

The student will be show the fundamentals of perspective, and how to incorporate them into their final paintings.

The student will be able to follow the tutor in the preparation sketch for the final project painting, a copy of which will be provided in the downloads.

The student will be shown how to complete the final painting following the tutor in the processes, with explanations as to why the choices were made.

The downloads will include all of the course material including copies of all paintings ; sketches; and effects.
