Advanced Embroidery with Color-Image Transfers
Discover how to color images, transfer them onto fabric, and embroider them using advanced techniques to create pieces full of texture
Create relief textile pieces using a combination of three main techniques: image coloring, fabric printing, and embroidery. Photographer, embroiderer, and founder of Studio Variopinto Minia Banet introduces you to her creative process. She specializes in the creation of original accessories and decorative pieces full of character.
In this online course, she teaches you to add color to images, transfer them onto fabric, and then embroider directly onto them with both flat and relief stitches to achieve a range of exciting textures. If you want to learn more, check out Minia’s previous course: Bordado en fotografías sobre tela
Begin the course by hearing Minia Banet talk about her journey through the world of embroidery, her main references, and what inspires her to continue creating. She also shows you the materials and tools necessary for your final project.
After creating a mood board, select the image you’d like to work with and learn to color it either digitally or manually. Then discover how to print your design onto the fabric using transfer paper.
Now explore a range of advanced embroidery stitches including the bullion stitch, the Pekinese stitch, and the woven wheel stitch and put together a sampler for practice. Also experiment with mixed techniques like beading and needle felting.
Next up, digitally color your image before printing it onto dark fabric and transferring your base design with carbon paper. It’s finally time to embroider and add the finishing touches to your piece!
