General. MCU. Warning lights. Driving status. How to connect to vechicle ports.

MCU is Tesla’s  Media Control Unit hardware. MCU 1 was used in Model S and Model X cars after March 2018. The Model 3 and Model Y started with MCU2 and later transitioned to MCU3 in late 2021. Vehicles with MCU1 can be upgraded to MCU2. MCU2 has the Intel Atom processor.

Driving status

1.The power meter displays real-time power usage. During acceleration, the bar fills to the right with a gray color (or white if the display is dark) to represent power being used. During deceleration (when Model Y is moving and you release your foot from the accelerator pedal), the bar fills to the left with a green color to represent power being fed back to the Battery by regenerative braking. 2.When Autosteer is available but you haven’t activated it, the icon is gray. When it is active – the icon is blue 3.Currently selected drive mode: Park, Reverse, Neutral, or Drive. 4.Driving speed. 5.Other cars detected on the road (as applicable) and etc.

Connection to the LAN ports

Another new port will be open after entering into Factory / Developer mode in Tegra CPU

Diagnostic modes. Activation of modes.

On new firmware, the entrance to the Factory occurs through reset all data. The main difference between modes:

• Factory mode remains after MCU reboot (Media control unit)

•Developer mode after reboot MCU crashes

After enabling these modes, you can read Alerts (errors) in the block

Installing navigation maps

•WARNING! Before installing maps, make sure that the vehicle is not downloading / installing the firmware and whether the alarm clock is off.

•To install car maps, you need to connect to WiFi, and wait about 10 minutes to make sure that the car does not suddenly download the firmware at the moment of maps installation.

If something is installing than you need to wait until the firmware will be fully installed.

Toolbox 2.1 offline & 3.0 online – diagnostic software.

•Toolbox 2.1 must be in Factory Mode to work. For cars with a date of manufacture from 2012 to February 2018.

•Press the brake pedal to turn on the rail mode (“car ignition”) if there are no keys. Press the diagnostics button, Alerts DTCs. After that, in the Panel menu, we can view all Errors.

•Then go through the menu items, such as Battery, Brakes, Body Controls, Thermal ( for example, we can see what is happening with pumping coolant, de-airing the cooling system), Restraint System (For example, resetting airbag errors and air suspension errors.)
