In this module we will focus on the Integrative Process. The integrative process requires project team members to look for synergies among systems and components, the mutual advantages that can help achieve high levels of building performance, human comfort, and environmental benefits. The process should involve rigorous questioning and coordination and challenge typical project assumptions.

In this course we will review the Integrative Process worksheet and provide you insights beyond what can be found in the LEED v4 BD+C reference guide. Since this credit is about utilizing the worksheet as a comprehensive tool for identifying interrelated issues and developing synergistic strategies, we will review a comprehensive list of the stakeholders involved and their documentation expectations.

As part of the Integrative Process, the development of a simple box energy model is crucial. “Simple box modeling” is a whole building energy simulation used to evaluate energy end uses and demand before building geometry and site orientation have been set in the design process. It is a great way to quantify performance early to inform design. A sample simple box energy model is included as additional content, which explains the role of energy modeling to achieve a high performance building.
