Cyber security; In information systems, we can define it as the protection of the security, integrity and confidentiality of our communication, life, integration, tangible or intangible assets and even our data in the electronic environment.

In today’s technology age, we have begun to reflect and live a large part of our lives in electronic media. Not just us individuals! States, public institutions, social platforms, SMEs, and all private companies, large and small, have also started to communicate with the services and products they offer to us consumers or other companies and institutions through virtual environments.

This world, which we describe with concepts such as the virtual world and the cyber world, now takes place with the data we have produced with our virtual and real assets and our lives. We do most of our communication with other people in electronic media. In all this virtual life we have mentioned, we have to protect ourselves and our institutions against cyber attackers. At this point, we come across the definition of “Cyber Security”.

The word cyber is the name given to networks whose infrastructure is information systems. It can also be defined as virtual reality in general. In short, Cyber Security is the protection of the integrity and confidentiality of the life lived on cyber networks, the infrastructure of which is information systems.

Information security and cyber security are often used interchangeably but are different from each other. Information security is defined as the protection of the integrity, security and confidentiality of information and its boundaries are drawn with globally accepted standards such as ISO 27001, ITIL, COBIT. However, it is a much broader concept that includes information security, the infrastructure of which is information systems.

What is Cyber Security for Institutions? How is Data Security Provided?

When we look at the concept of cyber security from the perspective of institutions, companies and SMEs, the concept of information security comes first. “Data / information” comes first among the assets owned by institutions. Organizations can compile, process, sell, rent or use the knowledge they have to produce a product/value. Many standards have been established in the global world for information security, which is of critical importance for institutions. ISO 2701 is the first and only auditable information security standard globally produced for organizations. They are responsible for protecting their confidential data and their most important asset, “information”, by ensuring information security.
