Welcome to exploring watercolor grounds!

Have you tried watercolor grounds before? They are so much fun, and I have been experimenting again and want to share what I’ve learned!

I’m excited to share this course with you, it’s going to be a lot of fun and I think it will really give you a number of new tools to add to your watercolor toolbox.

In today’s course, we will focus on a few substrates that you can use watercolor grounds on, how to apply them, and we’ll be doing a beautiful colorful rock project plus sealing it with resin for an underwater look.

This class is for any level student, I will demonstrate, in real-time, how to paint a wonderful, whimsical, rock painting over watercolor grounds using watercolor and gouache. This class is not a realistic class. The approach is loose, impressionistic, and whimsical.

I will walk you through the entire process – from a quick, loose sketch to creating a painting with depth and interest – and all the steps in between.

Most of all, our focus is on relaxing, staying loose, and enjoying the painting process.

In this class you will learn:

  • How to prep your substrates with watercolor grounds!

  • Learn about 5 different ways to use your watercolor grounds on different substrates.

  • How to use wet in wet watercolor techniques for layering and creating results.

  • Resin Prep and techniques for an underwater look.

  • How to seal and prep the backs of your wooden cradleboards.

  • We will be practicing:

    • Wet on dry

    • Wet on wet

    • Color mixing

    • Layering washes

    • Adding gouache to increase the opacity of our paint

    • Staying loose

    • and so much more. 🙂

I have also added an additional Bonus full painting tutorial “Lakeside Shadows”
Have fun and looking forward to answering any questions for you!!!

As always, we will wrap up the class with a project using the skills and techniques we have learned in the class.

XOXO,

Kellie
