Female Portraiture with Acrylics
Learn techniques to depict the strength of the female body and women everywhere
Portraying real women and provoking reflections on aesthetic standards and current behavior are just a couple of visual artist Pri Barbosa’s goals. After creating murals, paintings, and illustrations for clients such as Asics, 3M, and HuffPost, in this online course, she teaches you how to paint non-idealized female figures with acrylic paint.
Throughout the course, Pri explains how to develop a concept and a palette of analogous colors and explains step by step how to do a portrait. Each element of a piece is capable of reflecting customs, times, and beliefs. So, grab your brushes and learn to create paintings that convey what you truly believe!
To begin, Pri Barbosa talks about her education, career, and main works to date. She also shares pieces by female artists from different centuries and backgrounds, who have not been recognized by art history.
Next, your teacher shows you the materials needed for the course and explains the function of each one. From there, learn about the importance of researching and developing the concept and poetic nature of your painting. After getting to know some techniques for transferring a digital image to canvas, discover the fundamentals of acrylic paint, its characteristics, texture, and drying characteristics. Pri also explains how to create palettes with analogous and complementary colors.
Then use the video medium to produce references from your own body, before bringing your favorite image to the screen and organizing your workspace and materials. Now it’s time to paint your work layer by layer, from the background, skin, and hair to the final details.
To wrap up, Pri walks you through about her post-production processes, and shows you how to digitize the final piece, treat the image, and include this and other paintings in your portfolio.
