The student will understand the importance of the colour wheel, and what benefits it will bring to their painting.

This course will cover the fundamental colour wheel, and the suggested selection of watercolours to allow the mixing of a multitude of colours, from just 6 initial  watercolours. The student will be shown which colours are warm and which are cool. The student will understand where on the colour wheel the watercolours are placed, this will enable the student to correctly decide the compliments of colours

The student will be shown various watercolour techniques to make the painting of watercolours more interesting. The techniques will include painting washes; how to paint various skies; how to paint wet in wet; how to paint in dry brush; how to create clouds in a painted sky.

The student will be instructed as to how to make a successful composition. The course will cover the initial thumb nail sketch process in order to create a successful composition. The student will be shown what makes a successful painting. The student will be shown how to plan a painting to achieve the best effect.

The student will be able to follow the tutor in painting a scene analysing the methods of  composition; perspective; shadowing; colour choices and techniques.

I have also provided a download of watercolour techniques and a number of drawings, which you will be able to utilise to start your own layouts/paintings. you will be able to follow what is happening in the course lectures and complete all the work shown at your own pace. The downloads will also include colour guides, course notes; paintings of skies; and washes.
