Latticino Cane is characterized by threads of white glass which is twisted on a base of clear glass to form an intricately designed cane.  The class is intended for the beginning student and does not require a lot of experience or expensive tools and materials.  The class will start with an introduction and a presentation slide of the class Syllabus.  We will then review the prerequisites including having knowledge of basic lampwork safety requirements, a well ventilated work area and a pair of didymium safety glasses.  It is also recommended that the students has a kiln to properly anneal their canes and beads.

The Barrel Latticino lecture will start out with a chalk talk on some design aspects of latticino.  The instructor will then demonstrate how to make a base barrel of clear glass on a 1/8″ mandrel.  Once the base is made, a simple latticino cane will be constructed using commercial stringers of glass.  The instructor will make 4 additional latticino canes of varying complexity and colors to further demonstrate the technique.

The Optic Mold Latticino lecture will illustrate how to use an optic mold to separate the threads with clear glass.  The instructor will make 2 canes using the mold and will discuss the intricacies of making a layered latticino cane.

The final Filigrana Latticino lecture will show how the student can use commercial Filigrana to make a multi-colored latticino cane on a clear base.

A short congratulatory wrap up will conclude the class.
