Graphic Design: The Art of Shape and Color
Learn to harness the power of shapes, colors, and patterns to express ideas through bold graphic designs
Artist and graphic designer June Mineyama-Smithson has one goal—to spread optimism through bold and beautiful colors and shapes. Inspired by the bright lights of her childhood in ’70s and ’80s Tokyo, June employs a unique graphic design method that is larger than life. She’s created designs for many urban projects, collaborating with London’s Culture Mile and On the Grid, and she’s also developed her own NFT collection, When a Visionary Dreams.
In this online course, learn how to create eye-catching posters and social media posts using June’s bespoke methods. She teaches you to find inspiration in your imagination and your surroundings, translating them into exciting designs with unique shapes and colors. Prepare to be guided by your creative intuition and everyday inspiration.
Start off by meeting your teacher, artist and graphic designer June Mineyama-Smithson. Discover how she finds inspiration in her urban strolls around London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and New York City, as well as in bright, vivid colors. Learn to take a page out of her book and find inspiration everywhere.
Get in touch with your inner creative intuition by applying June’s visual communication methods with hands-on exercises. Inspired by 17th-century kimono artisans, her technique helps you take a deep dive into the power of color and shapes to breathe new life into your creations.
Then uncover your creativity by finding inspiration in your everyday observations and incorporating them in a mood board. After making an initial sketch, work with Illustrator to choose your shapes and colors, later finalizing your posters and social media posts.
Once you’ve finished, learn how to get your work out there through personal branding and collaboration.
