What you’ll learn

  • You will learn the basics of how to draw a face
  • How to use procreate
  • How to use oil brushes on procreate
  • How to paint skintones on procreate

Welcome to the first class in the Procreate Series! If you’ve ever wanted to draw a beautifully stylized portrait in Procreate, then this class is for you!

In this class, I’ll be taking you through my entire process of how I set up my canvas, sketch my reference, lay down the various layers of paint, stylize the painting to make it look like an oil painting, and how I tie it all together into a final, finished painting.

This class is more geared towards students that have at least the fundamental knowledge on the placement of features on the human face. However, I would encourage anyone interested in the class to give it a try as I selected a reference that is easy enough to be tackled even by beginners.

So, if you’re ready to tackle something new and learn a few new tricks, give this class a try!

MATERIALS

The basic materials needed are:

  • An iPad (I used the Apple iPad 10.2-inch 128GB) that is compatible with the app Procreate. A stylus. I used the Apple pencil 1st Generation, but there are less expensive styluses available on the market that work well with Procreate.

  • Procreate. I used Procreate 5x.

  • The 6B Pencil from Gabrielle Brickey’s brushes.

  • The other brushes used were mainly the Soft Airbrush, Dry Brush, Old Brush and Nikko Rull Brush. Out of all the above, the Dry Brush was used the most.

The background music was produced by Lukrembo. Find out more here!

Have fun!
