In this course you’ll learn the difference between objective (Critical) beer judging and subjective (Hedonic) beer judging and why the former is of paramount importance in professional beer evaluation settings.  You’ll also learn about proper environmental considerations within your beer evaluation space -whether it’s at home or at an external location.

You’ll will learn about human physiology and how it functions in beer evaluation.  The sequential steps in beer evaluation will be discussed in detail, as will the beer judging tools that are at the disposal of anyone wishing to make use of them. 

You’ll also learn the simple “two-part” beer evaluation process.  They will also be introduced to the concept of Serial Position Effect and a discussion of why beer tasting order can affect the outcome of competition scoring or results.  Other potential pitfalls, such as fatigue and de-sensitization will be addressed.

The topic of Beer Styles will be touched upon, but not in great detail, as this subject matter is far too exhaustive and in-depth for this course.  Therefore, it will be incumbent on you to familiarize themselves with beer styles on their own.  Helpful links to resources for this information is shared within the course.

Likewise, the topic of Off-Flavors will be mentioned, but like beer styles, the subject matter is too exhaustive and in-depth to be covered in this course.

Finally, various opportunities for additional beer evaluation learning and practice outside of this course will be presented for the benefit of those who want to expand their knowledge and experience on this topic.
