This course explores linguistics, psychology and childhood development to explain how the brain and body produce sounds that become language and speech.
Language perception and production allows us to think of something and use words and sounds to communicate that idea to other people, who then use a shared linguistic understanding to interpret those sounds and grasp the idea. This course guides you through the concepts that define the study of language perception and production, including ?perceptual narrowing? and the use of speech sounds. We explore both psychology and linguistic theory.
What You Will Learn In This Free Course
Speech Perception
In this module, you will learn the science behind speech perception. You will study the various terms related to auditory perception and the functions of the cortical regions in the brain that support auditory perception. The development of speech perception from the fetus level onward will also be discussed.
Speech Production
In this module, the concepts of speech production will be discussed. You will learn about the features and properties of the vocal tract, the principles of articulation and the models of language processing will be explained. You will also study the different regions of the brain that facilitate speech production.
