Learn How to Run a Successful User Acceptance Test (UAT)

I designed this course to help you learn how to successfully plan, run and close a User Acceptance Test, or UAT. I created this course because a UAT is a critical part of every project, but it’s hard to run a UAT successfully. UAT’s go beyond just running some tests and calling it a day. To be successful you’ll have to :

• Plan – understand the testing needs of your system, figure out who you need on the team AND get buy-in for it all

• Execute – running the UAT takes more than just following steps. You’ll need to obsessively communicate, find systems champions and track issues and metrics.

• Finalize – completing the UAT is more than just finishing all the scripts. You’ll need to address each and every issue, ensure the team signs off on the status, and get the official thumbs up that testing is done.

This course will go over each of those areas (as well as some more!) to help you prepare for and run a successful UAT.

• Are running a project – EVERY project needs some kind of acceptance testing, no matter how big or small.

• Serving on a project team – At the very least you’ll be involved in some way supporting or running a UAT, so knowing how they work is critical to your success.

• Being a tester in a UAT – Understanding what’s expected of you, and what isn’t, will help you get the most out of your time testing.

• Managing someone involved in a UAT – Knowing what your team is expected to do will help you, as their manager, better support them during the UAT.

UAT’s are also more than just test scripts – they’re about people. This course covers several topics related to managing those individuals, including:

• Getting buy in – UATs take time and money, convincing stakeholders a UAT is worth it can be hard! You’ll learn how to highlight the need for a UAT and what types of communications are needed to get buy-in.

• Managing the testers – Getting a diverse group of folks to help finalize testing can be a challenge – you’ll have to stay on top of things like availability, different opinions and more. You’ll learn how to address challenges, and other ways testers can be used to improve the product.

• Supporting the team – Testers need more than a “good luck!” to be successful. You’ll need to get them documentation, work with them to clarify challenges and more.
