Choose Your Words, Then Learn the Basics of Free-Motion Stitching
Choose a favorite quote, a short poem or sentiment, then grab some paper and a pencil and let Heather walk you through several practice techniques as you begin to learn how to fit your selected words and letters on the surface of your quilt. Feel like a kid again as you practice your cursive, playing with tall letters, dangling tails, dotting your i’s and crossing your t’s.
Marking Lines for Stitching, Plus Easy Pin Basting
Learn to use Heather’s choice for marking on the surface of your quilts; the Hera marker, as you section out the area of your quilt that you plan to write on. Then Heather will show you how quick and easy it is to baste your quilt with silk pins. After this segment, you’ll be ready to start stitching!
Decorative Capital Letters & Completing the First Pass
Begin by learning all about creating beautiful, complex monograms that can be used as standalone designs or as the first letter at the beginning of a sentence. Then, Heather will lead you through stitching out the first pass of your entire selection of script.
Embellish With Additional Passes, Thread Painting & Flourishes
Now you’re ready to add all of the extras to your stitched words with three more stitching passes. You’ll thicken up the lines, add flourishes and use thread painting techniques, then tidy up the lines and edges. After all this practice you will be all set to write on your next quilt with ease.
