  • The Function of the Central Nervous System

    This module examines the function of the central nervous system. You will learn about the three major subdivisions: central nervous system (CNS), the peripheral nervous system (PNS), the autonomic nervous system (ANS). You will learn about the spinal cord and the brain-stem structure and function, as well as how to assess conciousness in regard to motor, sensory and orientation functions.

    Diagnostics and Care Procedures

    This module focuses on the various diagnostic procedures for identifying and evaluating the patients nervous system. Here you will learn the steps and procedures for brain scanning, electroencephalogram (EEG) and lumbar puncture. You will also learn about the proper positioning and care for an unconscious patient. Proper positioning of the patient prior to give eye treatments, and the procedure for administering hearing tests are also explained.

    Nervous System Disorders

    In this module you will learn about the different types of some of the most common infectious neurological diseases such as meningitis and encephalitis. You will also learn about cranial nerve disorders and head injuries, generally categorized as direct and indirect. You will also learn about degenerative neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson?s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) as well as the signs and symptoms, and emergency treatment procedures.
