Private 5G refers to a mobile network that allows the owner to provide priority access or licensing for its spectrum. The major difference between private and public networks relates to priority access and isolation. Unlike 5G public networks, a private 5G network can be reconfigured by its operator so that it can allow different levels of priority access. Certain network activities can always get priority in private 5G. In this, less critical activities can be deprioritized or offloaded to a different network. Private 5G can deliver ultra-low latency and very high bandwidth connections which supports artificial intelligence-driven apps that can serve a number of sensors and endpoints. The 5G SBA (Service-based Architecture) affords the ability to establish different network slices, which comprise completely independent control and user plane functions. With the user plane functions always residing on the premise location, in this, the traffic can be dynamically steered to either the customer’s private network, it is towards the software-defined virtual private network delivered across the operator’s shared infrastructure or the internet.
