This class is an introduction to the world of middle eastern spices. After this course, you’ll be able to identify a broad range of middle eastern spices, aswell as knowing the theory about making your own spice blends
We’ll go through the basic tools and ingredients you’ll need and we’ll take a look at a couple of different middle eastern recipes and general approaches to combining spices.
First we’ll look into the different categories of spices and what they have in common. There’s a little bit of aroma theory involved here, but fear not, we’ll approach this very beginner friendly.
After we’ve had our first contact with these spices, I’ll teach you how we can build a spice blend. You’ll not just learn what goes good together, but how you can identify possible spice combinations.
Along the way, I’ll show you a couple of different recipes where we can put your new knowledge to the test and create a nicely spiced dish.
In the end, there’s a little exercise where you can build your own blend of baharat, a classic middle eastern spice blend. I’ll teach you my version of it afterwards, but the goal is to take your first steps alone. And I’m pretty sure yours will be at least as tasty as mine 🙂
